According to this blog post by GC authority Eric Garland, the company is doomed, and very shortly: http://www.ericgarland.co/2015/02/03/end-guitar-center/

I haven't been to a GC in a long while.   I did stop at a Sam Ash to look around awhile back.   Although I can't say that Sam's is a great store,  it does appear to have the trust of some of the smaller indie manufacturers.   This means that Sam Ash pays for their inventory.  Guitar Center is losing too many vendors.   GC Lost RIC, and Mesa... that I know about.... and rumor was that Beringer wanted out.

Guitar Center Sucks...  It has for a long time, and keeps sucking more day after day.
